The Amarelli family has been making licorice since the 16th century. In 1731 they established one of the first pre-industrial factories to extract the juice of this beneficial plant and have been producing licorice sticks and licorice candies ever since.

Amarelli is located in Calabria and use Calabria-grown licorice root to make its licorice. Many gourmets and renowned experts, including the Encylopedia Britannica, consider Calabria's licorice to be the best in the world. Amarelli licorice is a superior gourmet treat, with a unique bitter-sweet flavor that reflects high quality of pure licorice meticulously processed.

After three centuries, Amarelli still manufactures exceptionally high quality liquorice that is completely natural, without additives or sweeteners. Amarelli's wide range of products includes pure licorice as well as soft and sugar-coated versions. Also available are delicious extracts and essences for making nougats, brandy and spirits.

On your next visit to Italy be sure to visit the Giorgio Amarelli Museum, www.museodellaliquirizia.it, which in 2001 was the "Guggenheim Enterprise & Culture Trophy" and learn more about the intricate and fascinating way licorice is made. They are located in southern Italy's Calabria region in the city of Rossano.

Amarelli, who had earned a "The Italian Artistic and Cultural Heritage" series postage stamp, is one of the 36 members worldwide of The Hénokiens Association of Family and Bicentenary Companies www.henokiens.com
